Cari amici Tarantini, ci siamo!!!

Almeno sulla carta…. Il percorso della Milano-Taranto 2014 è definito anche se, visti i mesi che ci separano dalla rievocazione storica (dal 6 al 12 luglio), qualche aggiustamento è possibile.
Sarà ancora una volta una corsa lungo l’Italia bella e suggestiva, che ci porterà alla scoperta di nuovi paesi e luoghi incantevoli. Inimmaginabili per chi è abituato a spostarsi in autostrada.
Non ci stanchiamo mai di ripeterlo: il nostro Paese è una miniera inesauribile di bellezze paesaggistiche, architettoniche e artistiche. Non c’è paese o città o frazione che non offra spunti interessanti e memorie storiche, personaggi singolari e prodotti della terra unici e squisiti.
Se non ci fosse la tabella di marcia da rispettare, sarebbe da fermarsi ogni cinque chilometri. Quando si parte da Milano è come se tuffassimo le mani dentro un grosso scrigno, sicuri di pescare, anche ad occhi chiusi, per sei giorni di seguito, perle e gioielli  uno più bello e prezioso dell’altro.
Le sedi di tappa ricalcano a grandi linee quelle di dodici mesi fa. Abbiamo cercato di trovare strutture alberghiere in grado di ospitare l’intera Carovana della Mi-Ta, senza dover ricorrere a più hotel. Dopo aver macinato tanti chilometri, infatti, ed esserci ripresi con una doccia rigenerante, è bello stare tutti insieme e rivivere le emozioni della giornata appena trascorsa, raccontandoci le mille avventure vissute assieme alle nostre moto, senza accollarci fastidiose trasferte in pullman per la cena.

Le sedi di tappa individuate sono le seguenti:

• Milano – Castenaso (BO)
• Castenaso – S. Maria degli Angeli  (PG)
• S. Maria degli Angeli  (PG) – Isernia
• Isernia – Potenza
• Potenza – Potenza (novità assoluta per la Mi-Ta)
• Potenza – Taranto.

Se queste città abbiamo già avuto modo di conoscerle, le strade per raggiungerle saranno diverse, con caratteristiche tali da deliziare anche il motociclista più esigente.
Franco Sabatini non va per il sottile quando deve tracciare il percorso. Ha una abilità diabolica nell’individuare pendenze, curve e tornanti sulla carta geografica e ogni volta il suo occhio finisce magicamente per fissarsi su stradine nuove, affascinanti, aspre, selettive e soprattutto lontane dalle grandi arterie.
E allora scopriamole in dettaglio, queste tappe, con la curiosità di chi non vede l’ora di rimettersi in marcia con l’amica più cara per una nuova, emozionante, avventura on the road.

Andiamo alla scoperta delle prime due tappe

Prima Tappa. 7 luglio 2014

Milano Idroscalo-Castenaso (Bo) 328 chilometri

È la classica frazione d’apertura, di notte, solcando la pianura Padana immersa nel sonno.

Start a mezzanotte e poi via per S. Martino Olearo, Spino d’Adda (le cui origini risalgono al 359 a.C.) caratterizzato dalla presenza di antiche cascine, e Crema, con la solita sosta golosa prima del controllo orario. La marcia proseguirà poi per Castelleone e Soresina dove ritroveremo tanti amici nonostante l’ora piccola. Dopo aver passato Casalmorano e Casalbuttano e attraversato il ponte di ferro di Cremona piegheremo verso Piadena e Mantova, lungo un nuovo percorso che il sorgere del sole renderà più suggestivo. Saremo a metà tappa. Il pensiero, alle porte della città virgiliana, non potrà non andare al mitico Tazio Nuvolari, nato a Castel D’Ario, che iniziò la sua straordinaria carriera agonistica in sella ad una moto Bianchi prima di diventare il pilota preferito di Enzo Ferrari e di milioni di italiani. Il ricordo delle sue incredibili imprese è ancora vivo e ogni anno Mantova gli rende omaggio organizzando il “G.P. Nuvolari” per auto d’epoca.

Quando gli occhi faticheranno a rimanere aperti e il peso della fatica comincerà a farsi sentire passeremo per Poggio Rusco, Bondeno ed Argenta, dove due anni fa abbiamo trovato un’accoglienza superba. Attraverso la pigra campagna emiliana toccheremo infine Molinella, S. Martino in Argine e Budrio prima di approdare a Castenaso. Il contachilometri, dopo dieci ore di marcia, segnerà 328 chilometri. 

Seconda Tappa. 8 luglio 2014

Castenaso- S. Maria degli Angeli (Assisi) 374 Km.

Tappa tosta, immersa in un paesaggio che continua ad andare su e giù in un toboga di curve e controcurve da perderci la trebisonda. Tappa per motociclisti incalliti ed esperti, quelli che sanno chiedere il massimo alla compagna di viaggio, intervallata da alcuni imperdibili ristori e incontri con amici di vecchia data della Milano-Taranto, che non faranno mancare calore e… dolci.

Lasciata Castenaso la strada comincia subito verso i Passi così cari alla storia della Milano-Taranto; il Passo della Raticosa ed il Passo della Futa. Siamo sempre al confine tra Emilia e Toscana, tra boschi e montagne a far da scenografia.
Altri chilometri ed ecco Dicomano, il paese del carissimo amico “Corellino”, il motociclista- collezionista che sa prenderci sempre per la gola con le sue dolcissime specialità.
Da sempre centro di passaggio, Dicomano è un punto d’incontro tra scenari paesaggistici diversi, circondato com’è dalle montagne e con il Mugello a un tiro. Una sgasata ed eccoci a Bibbiena, nell’Aretino, sede del Centro italiano della fotografia d’autore ospitato nell’ex carcere mandamentale.

Il verde domina a 360 gradi. La strada comincia ad inerpicarsi verso Chiusi della Verna. Entriamo nei luoghi francescani per eccellenza. Ad Anghiari si combattè una celebre battaglia nel 1440 tra le truppe milanesi dei Visconti e una coalizione guidata dalla repubblica di Firenze, comprendente Venezia e lo Stato Pontificio, resa famosa da un dipinto di Leonardo da Vinci, purtroppo andato perduto.

Un centinaio di chilometri ed eccoci dalle parti di Franco Sabatini e una capatina a S. Martino in Colle è d’obbligo. Sosta per un controllo davanti alla casa del patron della Mi-Ta prima di toccare Torgiano, Bastia Umbra e S. Maria degli Angeli di Assisi, nella cui grande basilica cinquecentesca che domina il paese c’è la Porziuncola, la cappella dove si raccoglieva in preghiera S. Francesco d’Assisi.

La tappa si concluderà proprio davanti alla Basilica, che merita certamente una visita.
La città californiana di Los Angeles dove il nome proprio a questo piccolo centro umbro, in quanto fu fondata dai frati francescani finiti oltreoceano per divulgare il pensiero cristiano.
Una serata sotto le stelle, con cena all’aperto (meteo permettendo) a base di specialità umbre, chiuderà la giornata.

Chilometri complessivi: 374.

Dear Tarantini Friends, here we go!!!

At least on the paper…. The running track of Milano – Taranto 2014 is defined, even if considering the months still missing from now until the historical event (from July 6^th to July 12^th), some adjustments would be possible.
It will be once again a ride along the beautiful and suggestive Italy, that will bring us to discover new towns and enchanting places. Unimaginable for those who are used to travel on highways.
We will never stop repeating it: our country is a never-ending mine of beautiful land shapes, architecture and arts.  There is no city or town or village which doesn’t offer interesting inputs and historical memories, unique personalities and exquisite products of a unique land
If there would not be the marching track to be respected, we should stop every 5 km. Once started from Milan it’s as jumping into a big treasure box, sure to take out even with closed eyes, for 6 days one after another, pearls and jewels one bigger and more precious than the other.
The principal stops are almost the same as those of 12 months ago.
We tried to find new hotels in order to contain the whole MI-TA carovane , in order not to split the group to different hotels.
After having done kilometers and kilometers and having had a regenerating shower, it’s nice to stay all together and live again the emotions of the day just passed, telling and sharing the thousands of adventures lived together with our bikes, without getting transferred by bus.

The single etappes are the following:

• Milano – Castenaso (BO)
• Castenaso – S. Maria degli Angeli  (PG)
• S. Maria degli Angeli  (PG) – Isernia
• Isernia – Potenza
• Potenza – Potenza (absolute new for Mi-Ta)
• Potenza – Taranto.

If we already had the possibility to know these towns, the roads to reach them will be different, with some characteristics to delight even the most exigent biker
Franco Sabatini goes into hard when he has to trace the road map.
He’s got a diabolic ability individualizing slopes, bends and hairpin bends on the geo map and each time his eye magically finishes on fixing new small, fascinating, raw, selective roads and far from the big flow.
So, let us discover in detail those etappes, with the curiosity of those who cannot wait until the moment to ride again their greatest friend on a new, motioning adventure on the road.

Let’s discover the first two steps

First stopping place July 7 th 2014

Milano Idroscalo-Castenaso (Bo) 328 kilometres

It’s the classic opening section, by night, passing on the still sleeping paduan plain.

Start at midnight and then proceeding via S. Martino Olearo, Spino d’Adda (it’s origins go back to  359 a.D.) characterized by the presence of old farmer houses, and  Crema, with the usual sweet stop before the time check. The marching proceeds than to  Castelleone and Soresina where a lot of our friends will await for us, even if late. After having passed Casalmorano and Casalbuttano and having passed the iron bridge of Cremona we will go to Piadena and Mantova, along a new track which will be even more evocative while the sun is rising. We will be at half of the track. Our thoughts, once arrived at the door of the virgilian town, will for sure go to the myth Tazio Nuvolari, born in Castel D’Ario. He started his extraordinary agonistic career riding a Bianchi bike, before becoming Enzo Ferrari’s preferred driver as well as millions of Italians’ one. The memory of his incredible ventures are still alive and every year Mantua gives him glory organizing the “G.P. Nuvolari” for historical cars.

When the eyes will fight to stay open and efforts’ weight becomes harder we will pass through

Poggio Rusco, Bondeno and Argenta, where two years ago we found a marvellous welcome. By the end, crossing the emilian countryside we will touch Molinella, S. Martino in Argine and Budrio before reaching  Castenaso. After ten hours marching, the odometer will count 328 kilometers.

Second Part: July 8th 2014

Castenaso- S. Maria degli Angeli (Assisi) 374 Km.

This is a hard step, in a landscape which continues going up and down in a sequence of bends and counter bends until loosing orientation. A Step for longtime bikers and experts, those who can ask the maximum to their faithful fellow traveler, with some brakes and restoring points which cannot be missed, where we will find some old Milano-Taranto friends who will not let us miss their warmth…and cookies!

Left Castenaso the road goes immediately up to the pitches which are so loved by the MI-TA story; the Passo della Raticosa and the Passo della Futa. We’re still at the border between Emilia and Tuscany between woods and hills making the scene.
Some other kilometers and there will be Dicomano, the town of our very dear friend “Corellino”, biker and collector who always knows how to delight us with his sweet specialties.
Passing center since always, Dicomano is a meeting point in different landscapes, surrounded by mountains and Mugello quite nearby.

One more acceleration and we will arrive to Bibbiena, in the Arezzo territory, location of the Italian Centre of Authors’ photography, accommodated in the ex-local government prison. Green is dominating all around at 360 degrees. The road starts rising up to Chiusi della Verna. We are entering in one of the Franciscan Places of Excellence. In Anghiari there has been fought a famous battle in 1440 between the viscounts of Milan and a coalition leaded by the republic of Florence, including Venice and the Pontifical State, which became famous by a drawing done by Leonardo da Vinci, unfortunately lost.

Hundreds of kilometers and we are nearby Franco Sabatini’s home and passing in

S. Martino in Colle is a must. Stop for the time check in front of Mi-Ta’s big boss’s house before touching Torgiano, Bastia Umbra and S. Maria degli Angeli di Assisi, where in its big basilica from the sixteenth century dominating the town there is the Porziuncola, a small chapel where Holy Francesco from Assisi gathered into prayers.
The track will be finished just in front of the Basilica and a visit is for sure worth.
Los Angeles, the big city overseas got its name from this small Umbrian center as it was founded by some Franciscan monks who travelled overseas in order to share the Christian thoughts.

A dinner under the stars, open air (weather depending) will close the day, based on Umbrian specialties. Total kilometres: 374
